JOMUN
XII Reflection 9 – 28 – 14
On Sunday, September 28, 2014, the
last day of the JOMUN XII Conference came to an end. I, as a Press Team member,
began the day by working on my Human Rights article with the notes I had taken
during the debate. The debate focused on the rights prisoners are entitled to
in African countries and centered on ways to provide equality and better living
conditions within prisons. In addition, Raquel Wilson and I collaborated in
conjunction to write the articles “Director’s Insight: Interviews” on page 1
and “Getting to know the bosses: SG & DSG Interview” on page 2 of
JOMUNATION Issue 3. These articles were centralized on the opinions of
delegates, visiting schools, the secretary general, and the deputy secretary
general on the organization and atmosphere of the JOMUN XII Conference.
Specifically, the Human Rights
article focused on the prominent issue contained ethical implications within
the prison systems of African countries. This, in turn through the recognition
of the Johannesburg Model United Nations is seen as an issue of global
importance. My commitment as a Press Member exceeded beyond the objective of
simply a journalist. I helped where needed and supported my team members. I
continually kept a positive attitude throughout the entire JOMUN XII
Conference. A learning moment that I identified during the finale of the JOMUN
XII Conference was how thoroughly I actually enjoyed this experience and
saddened it was coming to an end.
My motivation was consistent and
thorough in the continuity of writing articles each day of the JOMUN XII
Conference. Once again challenges were the lack of team members and time
constraints, whose resolutions were touched on in the last reflection. The
skills I have enhanced by participating in Johannesburg Model United Nations
for the last two years such as: note taking, typing, writing, and
communication; will all improve my future endeavors. I feel I have received a
personal gain, through doing something I enjoy. I will always continue to participate
in global affairs.
