Marumofase High School Limpopo Reflection 2 – 11 – 15

Marumofase High School Limpopo Reflection 2 – 11 – 15

On Wednesday, February 11, 2015 the AISJ students held a lunch meeting to discuss the final phase, the formatting and publishing of our book. Our preliminary ideas as a team were discussed. The book design will be a flip page with a spiral spin on the top and each page will have a designed logo of the Limpopo service project. At the beginning of each Limpopo students story a headshot photograph and short bibliography will introduce their born-free short story. Danielle Deiotte, whom is an IB art student and member of the Limpopo service project, will design our logo and cover art. Our ideas for cover art include: the South African flag made up of words relating to the born-free generation, photos of the Limpopo students, or an abstract broken chain. Maya Campbell, our leader, met with the AISJ School Board to discuss publishing ideas. The School Board suggesting using a company associated with the school, AISJ for funding. Each team member and Limpopo student will receive a complimentary copy. The books will be sold in AISJ’s Eagle shop. On our calendar agenda, a preliminary trip is in the making to have the AISJ students visit Limpopo in late March.
Having a diverse team is a great strength as we can offer something unique and different to the service project. Also, it is a great accomplishment for the AISJ School, Marumofase High School, the students and the staff in the upcoming publishing of this book. The making of this book is the first time I have experienced being part of something that will be published. The goal is to have this book printed and published with many copies sold. We hope this will leave a legacy to the students of Limpopo who shared their struggles and their dreams.

Marumofase High School Limpopo Reflection 2 – 4 – 15

On Tuesday, January 20, 2015 Raquel Wilson and I volunteered to participate and represent the Marumofase High School Limpopo Service Project in the 9th and 10th Grade Service Launch. The Service Launch is an hour and a half afterschool in which we present the mission of our service project and encourage others to join. In turn, this would make the Limpopo service project sustainable. A PowerPoint was created by Maya Campbell, and I made a service video of our experiences meeting and working with the Limpopo students. Raquel and I presented the presentation containing these two materials to groups of ten in three sessions. We reviewed in great detail what the Limpopo Service project consists of and what was expected of those who joined. Additionally, we spoke of the amount of time would need to be dedicated to this project, the places we would travel, and gave them a vision of the progress of the book and the soon to come publishing of the book. To finalize the service presentation we encouraged the students to stop by during Wednesday lunch meetings to inquire or to sit in to one of our sessions. We would hope that they would be interested in joining the Marumofase High School Limpopo.
At this point in the school year with my commitment to the service project I have honed all my writing, communicating, and collaborative skills efficiently and effectively. By participating in this Limpopo Service Project this has given me tools to go forth on many more exciting community volunteer services.

On Wednesday, January 28, 2015 the AISJ students held a meeting to finalize the editing dates for the Limpopo Born-Free short stories. Maya Campbell, the leader of this project, created a Google Drive containing all typed, but unedited versions of the Limpopo Born-Free Short stories. This made the distribution and editing process accessible to each member of the service project. Therefore, allowing efficient time management for each team member. There are two folders in the Google drive. One containing typed unedited versions, and the other containing final edited versions of the stories that are ready to be formatted for publishing. These formatted stories we be viewed and finalized by our AISJ English teachers – Ms. Murgues and Mr. Daignault. The deadline for all edited Limpopo stories is set for February 18, 2015; so, that we can move on with the publishing phase.

This is a project that needs to be closely worked as a team. Therefore, my collaborative skills have improved tremendously within and during this project. I fell the whole AISJ team and Limpopo students have grown as we are now reaching our final stage of publishing our ultimate goal – the book. I feel that this service project has provided the Limpopo students with skills that can enhance their daily lives and their futures. Being a team member of the Limpopo service project provides me with a great tool to present to my future college as an extracurricular interaction with communities. Each activity and experience that is put forth during each session reflects on the previous trip with Limpopo students. I feel our team works well together and every deadline runs smoothly.

Preliminary Outlook Limpopo CAS Project 1 -19 - 15

Preliminary Outlook Limpopo CAS Project 1 - 19 - 15

Raquel and I are currently in the process of planning our CAS project. As the representatives of the Limpopo Service, we believe a stationary drive would greatly benefit our learning project. We would like to host a drive at AISJ that will raise school supplies to provide for the students at Marumofase High School Limpopo. This fundraiser will benefit the children with their writing educational needs and enable them to work productively with the correct supplies.
We would like this fundraiser to be a house competition between Athena, Apollo, Hermes, and Artemis. We would collect pencils, erasers, and sharpeners; each of which would count as 1 house point. Paper, notebooks, and binders would also be collected; each as 5 house points. The collection dates would run from the 17 February 2015 to 10 March 2015 at AISJ. The school supplies would be collected in homerooms, which would be gathered by Raquel and I and stored until our next visit to Limpopo.
We would post a notice in the high school bulletin on the appropriate date, announcing the start of our house competition school supply drive.
